Bonobos Bakery is the passion project of husband-and-wife team Lauren and Jarrad Wisherd, who bring a deep love of fermentation, flavor creation, and community to everything they make.

Lauren holds a master’s degree in Fermentation Sciences, Brewing, and Distilling from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. She pursued her studies after her family founded a distillery, where she spent a decade as Co-Master Distiller—at the time, the youngest Master Distiller in the world. Jarrad joined the distillery as Operations Manager, and the two quickly bonded over their shared passion for science and flavor. Together, they developed new spirits, refining their craft and creativity.

But for Lauren, baking had always been a love language. Every family birthday came with the question: What can I bake for you? That passion took on new life in 2023 when she and Jarrad started Bonobos Bakery from their home, selling at local farmers markets while still working full-time. The overwhelming support from their customers inspired them to take the leap—leaving their distilling careers to open their first storefront in Waynesboro.

At Bonobos Bakery, Lauren and Jarrad blend their scientific backgrounds with an artistic approach to baking, focusing on high-quality ingredients, innovative flavors, and time-honored techniques. Their commitment to the community is at the heart of everything they do—partnering with local farmers, sourcing from nearby vendors, and finding ways to give back.

And why Bonobos? The name is a tribute to the little girl at the heart of their family, whose nickname is "Bobo"—and the bakery’s signature pink branding? That’s her favorite color.
